I recently had the pleasure to visit Anime Expo in L.A. during early July. (And WOW, was it fun!) We flew in for the weekend and came back to the Bay Area on July fourth. With a schedule starting in the early morning and lasting through the evening, I needed to prepare carefully – travel-friendly sizes (since I knew I’d be coming back with a bunch of new things!) that were also effective. This brought me to old favorites and introduced me to some new ones!
My skin is on the dry end (probably because of my coffee addiction), so I needed a moisturizer that would get me through the day but also provide SPF. The Clinique Pep-Start Hydro Rush Moisturizer was available in the cutest size and had SPF 20! I applied this before makeup at the start of the day. It’s not too light and didn’t melt off. Since it’s a tiny bit on the thicker side, it really held on throughout the day. Sometimes moisturizers tend to be too thick for summer heat, but this was just right. The travel size came in 0.5oz for 9.50. A little went a long way for me, and I’m actually still using it so I definitely got my bang for my buck.
A classic I always turn to: PORE-fessional Face Primer by benefit. This is a hit-or-miss for some people, I want to say it depends on how it works with your skin. This primer smooths out my pores but looks so natural, even if I’m going with a natural look for the day (which definitely happened during this trip). It’s really light, so I’m not left with the sense of a heavy or oily or gritty primer after application. It’s also available in travel size! I have probably three samples from beauty subscriptions so I was stocked up for this trip. The travel size is available in 0.25 oz at 12.00.
At the end of the day, the first thing I wanted to do was relax! But it’s so important to remove your makeup so you don’t fall asleep with it on, so I was on the hunt for a travel-friendly makeup remover. Since my skin is dry and worsens with makeup wipes, I needed a cleansing oil to keep it hydrated during this process. The first thing that caught my eye was the boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil. What really sold this was that it comes in a pump! There’s a bonus – the pump has a removable lock at the neck that can be put back on so it doesn’t leak while in transit. Nothing spilled during travel so his was such a huge win. When using this MUBU (makeup-break-up), gently massage it on a dry face then splash on some water to create the milky texture. I’ll massage that texture on make sure everything from the day is off. Love, love, love this, it’s great for dry skin! It was budget-friendly at 10.00, with a pretty generous 1.7oz portion. I’m still using it!
Of course, I had to bring a cleanser. I took with me an old favorite – First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay. The full-size is 4.7oz for 24.00, but I had a couple travel-friendly sizes available from beauty subscriptions. It’s a light cleanser that lathers to clear out the pores. I paired this with another favorite I mentioned a few months ago, the FOREO LUNA mini 2, which is absolutely great for traveling! It’s around the size of my hand and fairly slim, so it was easy to pack. (Let’s not forget the pretty shade of pink!) I lightly cleanse each target area for 10 seconds. It’s important to use the FORE LUNA with a non-textured cleanser so to avoid damaging your skin, so these two make a great pair. The LUNA mini 2 battery also lasts for-e-ver – I haven’t had to charge it since the first use! The minis go for 139.00 at full price.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with these new and old favorites (and with the sourvenirs I picked up at the convention, but that’s another story…). I even took a couple sheet masks to double-down in keeping my skin hydrated. Summer is obviously a popular travel season, so I hope this list helps in finding some great solutions! Leave a comment with your favorite travel-friendly product, I love hunting for new ones. Safe travels!
